In a shocking incident, two men on a bike threw acid at a 17-year-old girl. The girl has been hospitalized in Safdarjung hospital and is undergoing treatment. The incident was reported in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka at around 7.30 am.

The police has detained one person after the victim raised suspicion over two people. The police received a PCR call about the incident in Police Station Mohan Garden Area.

The incident was captured in a CCTV camera. In the CCTV footage, the victim can be seen walking by the roadside with her sister. Two men on a bike came and threw a liquid substance at the 17-year-old girl. Then, the girl was seen holding her face and running for help while in extreme pain. A neighbour helped the victim wash the chemical off her face.

My daughters, one aged 17 and the other 13, were out together this morning. Suddenly, two men on a bike threw acid at my elder daughter and drove away. They had covered their faces,” said the father of the victim.

When inquired if the victim had mentioned about someone harassing her, her father replied, “No, she did not. If she had, I would have accompanied her everywhere. The sisters would travel to school together in Metro.”

The mother also stated that her daughter has not spoken about anyone disturbing or harassing her.

Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson, Swati Maliwal has issued notice to the Delhi police and raised questions over the poor implementation of the ban on over the counter sale of acid in the country.

DCW Chief Swati tweeted, “Two goons throw acid at a school girl in broad daylight in the country’s capital. Does anyone still fear the law? Why can’t the sale of acid be banned? Shame.

She added, “Acid was thrown at a school girl near Dwarka Mor. Our team is reaching the hospital to help the victim. Will get justice for the daughter. The Delhi Commission for Women has been fighting for years to ban acid in the country. When will the government wake up?
