Section 144 has been imposed in Shivamogga district of Karnataka after brutal murder of 26-year-old Bajrang Dal activist Harsha. The state authorities have also issued directions to suspend the classes in school and colleges for today as the situation becomes tense.

Harsha was stabbed to death on Sunday night at around 9 pm. A group of 4-5 assailants attacked him near Ravi Varma lane in the town’s Bharathi Colony. He was rushed to Mc Gann district hospital where he was declared dead.

Incidents of stone pelting were reported from the area after which prohibitory orders were issued.

Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra has denied its connection with the Hijab controversy. “But we need to wait for further investigations before arriving at a conclusion,” he said.

He also met deceased’s family and said, “The murder occurred at 9:30 pm on Sunday. The police have uncovered some clues. We will arrest the culprit soon.”
