Supreme Court on Wednesday pulled up the Delhi government for suspending and registering the FIR against the healthcare professionals who had filmed the horrifying conditions of patients and dead bodies in Delhi hospitals. The court stated that they are corona warriors and need to be protected.

Delhi government is directed to file an affidavit and the next date of hearing is scheduled on Friday.

“Stop harassing doctors and registering FIRs. You can’t suppress the truth. Why did you suspend a doctor who made a video of the pathetic conditions of one of your hospitals? Don’t shoot the messenger, don’t threaten doctors and health workers, support them,” stated a three-judge bench comprising justices Ashok Bhushan, SK Kaul, and MR Shah.

The bench further added, “Nurses, doctors are fighting Covid-19 and you are busy in filing FIRs against them. If you don’t treat the soldiers well then how will you win the war?”

In response, the Delhi government has told that they had improved a lot after the last visit of Home Minister Amit Shah to the LNJP hospital. The government also stated that they are committed to COVID-19 patients care, managing dead bodies appropriately, and increasing the COVID-19 tests per day as the apex court has slammed the Delhi government regarding decreasing the asymptomatic testing in the last hearing.

Supreme Court has also issued a notice to the LNJP hospital in context to the horrific situations at the hospital where dead bodies are stacked next to the COVID-19 patients.

The top court made such remarks while hearing the suo moto cognizance matter related to the media reports on ill-treatment being meted out to the COVID patients and dead bodies. In the last hearing on June 12, SC has slammed the way Arvind Kejriwal led Delhi government is dealing with the COVID-19 crisis and called the situation “horrendous, horrific, and pathetic”.
