Supreme Court has refused to entertain the plea filed by Maharashtra Wine Merchants Association against Maharashtra’s government order regarding the home delivery of liquor in Pune and Nasik amid coronavirus outbreak.

While rejecting the plea, SC bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar stated, “We are not interested to hear this petition. Liquor is not an essential thing, why we should make an urgent order.”

Maharashtra Wine Merchants Association has filed a petition before Supreme Court challenging the directions issued for the home delivery of liquor in Nasik and Pune in view of the surge in the COVID-19 cases.

Maharashtra government through its Excise Department has issued an order in May 2020 which allows the home delivery of liquor under some specific guidelines and precautions.
