Home » News » Two men sentenced to death for rape and murder of a minor girl


On 13 February, a South Tripura Court has sentenced two men to death who had committed a gruesome rape and murder of a minor girl aged 14-years-old, on 5 December 2018.

The bench headed by Special Judge A K Nath has convicted the two men, Kaastarai Tripura (20) and Banjoy Tripura (21) under Section 375 (rape) and section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and granted them capital punishment.

The Special Public Prosecutor Paltu Das, appearing for the prosecution stated to the court that the 14-year-old tribal girl was raped and murdered by the two convicts, in East Manikya Dewanbari area on 5 December 2018. The two accused were later arrested, tried and subsequently, sentenced to death within 14 months of the incident.

Earlier on 21 August 2019, a district and sessions court judge in north Tripura had granted capital punishment to a man who was found guilty in the rape and murder of a 7-year-old girl.
